Welcome to Girona
The cultural and spiritual heart of Catalonia and Northeastern Spain as well as a place consistently regarded as one the top 5 cycling destinations in the world.
Girona is a walkable city of 6 pedestrian bridges, founded as a Roman provincial capital over 2,400 years ago. Its strictly preserved historic district unfolds across narrow cobblestone streets, beautiful residences and shops, and the iconic "kissing balconies" that lean toward each other across ancient laneways.
Today, Girona pulses with a vibrant local life, world-class dining including the three-Michelin-star El Celler de Can Roca, a thriving café culture, specialist bike shops, colorful tapas bars, and a calendar of festivals and local events that bring the streets to life throughout the year and across the seasons.
What this place offers
A modern and beautifully restored apartment in a perfect central location in Girona's famous historic district of Barri Vell.
Scenic and historic location
This bright apartment's 3 set of French doors open to Spanish balconies that face toward the River Onyar. In the warmer months the foliage from the trees below provide privacy to the apartment and partial shade to the balconies. The sense is of being in a tree house
The building dates from medieval times and the older Roman wall minutes away from foot was erected initially in the 1st and 2nd Centuries.
On the side of the apartment building opposite the Onyar are outdoor cafes and the famous Placa de Sant Feliu and Basilica de Sant Feliu. Rising behind and above the Basilica is the giant Cathedral de Girona boasting the widest naive in Europe and the location of scenes from the Game of Thrones.
The apartment location is central to road, gravel and greenway off-road cycling routes fanning out in all directions. The Pyrenees are visible to the north as are the Costa Brava and Mediterranean (the Spanish Riviera) 39k to the east. Beautiful beaches are accesible by modern bus or bike.
The high speed rail station is a 20-25min walk from the apartment and Barcelona is 42 minutes to the south by direct rail service.
The French District of Provence and the French Riviera are a few hours north by train or car.
